About inspection for quartz crystal

1. Measurement of capacitance

By measuring the capacitance of the quartz crystal resonator with a capacitance meter or a digital multimeter having a capacitance measuring function, it is possible to roughly judge whether or not the quartz crystal resonator has been changed. For example, 45kHz, 480kHz, 500kHz, and 560kHz quartz resonators commonly used in remote transmitters typically have capacitances of approximately 296 to 310 pF, 350 to 360 pF, 405 to 430 pF, and 170 to 196 pF, respectively. If the measured capacity of the quartz crystal resonator is greater than the approximate value or no capacity, it can be determined that the quartz crystal resonator has changed value or open circuit damage.

 

2. Test with a test circuit

Making a test circuit can also be used to detect whether the quartz crystal resonator is intact. If the quartz crystal resonator is connected to the following circuit (note that the two leads of the quartz crystal resonator can not be too close), the circuit can start to vibrate, the LED indicator flashes, then the quartz crystal resonator performance is good; After the quartz crystal resonator is connected to the circuit, the circuit does not vibrate and the LED does not light, the crystal resonator is damaged.

 

3. Measure the resistance method

R × 10k file with a multimeter to measure the quartz crystal resonator positive and negative resistance, the normal time should be ∞ (infinity). If the measured quartz crystal resonator has a certain resistance or 0, then the quartz crystal resonator has leakage or breakdown damage.
